Right speech, at the right time, at the right place?
Put yourself in their shoes. The scene, a memorial service, mourning family and friends in attendance to remember the fallen victims of the AZ shooting earlier this week, a solemn occasion for sure. Up steps our President and delivers a rousing speech full of promises of unity and pleading for more understand between people with opposite political belief's. The crowd cheers and claps on several occasions, all the while you thought you were here to remember the fallen ones, the people that lost their lives. Am I the only one who felt the location and timing of this, much needed, speech was so inappropriate it almost defies words?

Robin, The entire venue\crowd\situation was completely wrong. For the first time in his two years in office, I thought President Obama did okay. The problem is that the incident was so completely overblown. Was it a tragic event? Certainly. However, it was six individuals that were killed; 19 total injured. How many days a year or maybe how many times a month a week a day could we find reports of 6 people shot to death? Is it because it involved a US Representative that it should be held as such horrible tragedy? Most Americans can't name a rep from their own state. Why would they be concerned about a rep they had never heard of from a place they know little about? The media, including Fox News, tried to equate this with the OK City bombing, the attacks of 9/11, and other times the President at the time was called to make a memorial speech. All these other events affected personally far more people.
ReplyDeleteI don't want anyone to feel that I am dismissing the pain and horrible losses in this incident, but it was not an American tragedy just a tragic event that happened in America and involved a US Representative. This was an American Media tragedy. Another vehicle for both the left and right wings to further their agendas which is to further divide us as Americans.
